  • Missional Living: 10 Powerful Questions to Spark Meaningful Conversation in Your Daily Life

This post provides additional tips and resources from Pastor Derek’s sermon, A Rhythm of Missional Living.

Living missionally isn’t just about big actions—it’s often about small, meaningful, God-ordained moments that create connection. One of the simplest yet most impactful ways to form those connections is by asking good questions. Jesus, the ultimate question-asker, showed us how to use thoughtful questions to open doors to deeper conversations.

But how do we get started? It’s not about jumping into deep, probing questions right away (that’s just weird). Instead, have a few “back pocket” questions ready—ones that show genuine interest and can naturally deepen a conversation as it progresses. The key is to truly listen to the answers. Listening, after all, is one of the greatest gifts we can give.

The example given in A Rhythm of Missional Living was, “How would you describe the state of your soul?”

Here are 10 more back-pocket questions to inspire you and help you live on mission every day, everywhere. Pastor Derek has personally used the first few at neighborhood picnics, etc., during times of small talk:
